October 22, 2024 – New York, NY – John Green, #1 internationally bestselling author, will publish a new nonfiction book, Everything Is Tuberculosis: The History and Persistence of Our Deadliest Infection, with Crash Course Books, a new imprint at Penguin Young Readers, a division of Penguin Random House. Scheduled for publication on March 18, 2025, Everything Is Tuberculosis traces the journey of a young tuberculosis patient in Sierra Leone woven together with the scientific and social histories of how this disease has shaped our world and how our choices will shape the future of tuberculosis. This book builds on Green’s nationally recognized advocacy for increased awareness of the healthcare inequities that allow this curable, treatable infectious disease to also be the deadliest, killing 1.5 million people every year. Everything Is Tuberculosis will publish in the week before World TB Day and will have a first printing of 500,000. In addition to hardcover and e-book formats, the book will be available in audio from Listening Library, with Green set to narrate.

Everything Is Tuberculosis chronicles the experiences of a young tuberculosis patient, Henry. John Green first met Henry in 2019 at the Lakka Government Hospital in Sierra Leone while traveling with the nonprofit Partners in Health. In the years since that first visit to Lakka, John Green has become a vocal and dynamic advocate for increased access to tuberculosis treatment around the world. From successfully challenging pharmaceutical companies to make life-saving medication more affordable to addressing the General Assembly of the United Nations, Green continues to push for solutions to this health crisis. Everything Is Tuberculosis humanizes and gives hope to this ongoing struggle and invites readers to join the conversation.

Everything Is Tuberculosis will be the first book published by Crash Course Books, a new imprint devoted to publishing nonfiction for students and lifelong learners. Crash Course Books is an extension of the popular Crash Course YouTube channel founded by Hank and John Green and will be led by Julie Strauss-Gabel, President and Publisher of Dutton Children’s Books at Penguin Young Readers. The deal for Crash Course Books was brokered by Jodi Reamer of Writers House. Following Everything Is Tuberculosis, Crash Course Books will debut two new series in Fall 2025: Crash Course Revolutions and Crash Course Lit, with additional titles to follow in Spring 2026.
